Being
part of a church community can be a bit like looking
at the sea. Some people just like to sit on the beach for a while
when
they first get to the sea and watch it, and see how it moves.
Some people
like to dip their toes in to test the temperature. Some people
like to
jump straight in and start swimming.
At Emmanuel church we believe that every Christian has gifts to bring the church. We are not consumers of religion. We are active members of the body of Christ. So we would encourage everyone to know that God has given you gifts and we need you to use them.
However, it's important as well that you can take
your time
to feel at home in the church. To get to know people and to enjoy
being
part of things. To go at your own pace.
If you are wondering how to get involved, below are some suggestions which cover our church life:
Join in the rhythm of our prayer.
Prayer is THE lifeblood of our church and Christian life.
We morning prayer at
nine every weekday.
We have a daily e-mail which links us all through Bible reading and prayer. Wherever you are you can join in at these times knowing that we are united together in prayer. And if you are in town you can come along to the services.
Prayer ministry and Prayerways.
We have a committed prayer team who long to see people experience God and know his touch and presence in their lives. We believe that spiritual gifts should be used in the church and be an expression of our life together. If you would like to explore being part of the team then we would love to hear from you.
Every Saturday morning we offer prayer for healing on the streets of Saltburn. This is based in Doorways, and is done in pairs. If you want to know more, we would love to hear from you.
Pastoral care team
We are developing teams of people who will visit those who are grieving, in need, or new to the church and area. If you have a pastoral heart, please join in - on average there may be one or two people to visit every month.
Practical service.
We seek to be church which is rooted in justice and serving the community. There are always practical tasks to be done in and around the buildings and in various projects of service.
Groups.
As a church we recognise that we want to grow as disciples of Christ, and that this is best done in the context of a small group of people who are committed to one another. If we are to see growth in the church nationally, it will be because Christians are getting beyond the superficial and growing in community.
Leading worship.
Church shop.
We have a church shop in Milton Street which both serves the town and raises money to fund the mission of the church. We are always grateful for new volunteers.

Children and youth.
Our work among children and youth is expanding--they are both the present and the future of the church. If you can help and have the gifts we would be delighted to hear from you.
Breakfast team

Once a half-term Emmanuel Church provides a free breakfast for the local community. It’s a simple act of service, no questions asked. Please come along and enjoy the food – breakfast is served from 8.45 am to 10 am with the finest fare and daily papers. Our team of servers is always willing to have help!
Next Breakfast Thursday March 31st
Assisting and serving during services.
There are various practical tasks of service to be done in worship and we are always grateful for people who will do this.
Church leadership.
We have a leadership council called the PCC. Every year new members are elected to guide the vision of the church and to take responsibility for the practical needs of a parish church. We need people who are prayerful, who can listen, and who can see the big picture. Whether you have been at the church for a short time or a long time we would encourage you to be open to serving the church in leadership.
If you want to find out about any of these opportunities, please get in touch with the wardens via the church office
